Hyaluronic acid is the perfect anti-aging skin care ingredient. But how?
Also known as HA, hyaluronic acid is present in large amounts naturally in our skin and helps to keep it plump and elastic by holding in water. Translating to bouncy, glowy skin. It also helps with tissue repair and supports healthy collagen and elastin. Unfortunately, its one of the many natural mechanisms that dont work quite as well as we get older.
As we age, the amount of HA in our skin is significantly reduced. This is because you actually make less, and your bodies natural enzymes break it down faster. In fact, by age 35 your skin will have around half the amount you had when you were 20. This effects not only how your skin looks, but also the health of the internal supportive structures of the skin contributing to dryness, wrinkles and sagginess.
HA is regarded as a significant anti-ageing ingredient.
Hydration serums containing concentrated amounts of HA are the best way to replenish the skin with HA. Such serums are becoming a beauty staple. They should contain a carefully balanced blend of hyaluronic molecules of various sizes (molecular weights) allowing replenishment of both the surface and lower layers of the skin. Larger molecules provide a breathable water bath on the surface of the skin. The smaller molecules are biomimetic (meaning identical to what your body makes) and support internal moisture balance (in the dermis). HA also has a much more complex role but suffice to say it is a pretty amazing ingredient!
In short, the right combination of hyaluronic acid in a serum will plump skin making it look and feel younger, smoother and healthier.
How do you apply hyaluronic acid?
It is best applied to clean skin where it is easily absorbed before occluding the skin with oil containing products such as moisturisers and sunscreen. You can mix serums together as well if you have other targeted skin treatments. If you are a mimimalist with your skin care, you will get great results even if it is the only thing you use.
Our hyaluronic acid is produced through a natural and sustainable fermentation process. It is biomimetic meaning it is identical to the one produced by your own skin. It is a high quality, non-GMO, ECOCERT and COSMOS approved ingredient.
As science helps us learn more about the skin, we are becoming more conscious that the products we put on the skin should support its natural processes.
